Place the remaining stitches on a spare needle or holder to be worked later. Tip: Always make note of the last row worked on the instep before you put those stitches on hold to work the heel. That way, you can start on the next row for the gusset, after the heel is turned, so your pattern stitch continues without interruption or mistakes.

Row 1 (RS): *Slip 1 purlwise with yarn in back, k1; repeat from * across.

Row 2: Slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, then purl across.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until flap measures 21⁄4 (31⁄4, 31⁄4, 4, 41⁄4, 41⁄2, 43⁄4) inches. End after working a wrong-side row.
